This skirt is made combined with metal Chinese frog button. The Chinese frog button, also known as “handmade knot button” or “decorative button,” is an iconic element of traditional Chinese clothing. Its origins can be traced back to the Song Dynasty (960–1279 AD), with its widespread use during the Ming and Qing Dynasties. It is most commonly associated with garments such as qipao and long robes. Over time, the frog button evolved into a delicate blend of functionality and artistry, symbolizing the essence of Chinese apparel culture.
The design of frog buttons is inspired by nature and traditional motifs, such as flowers, animals, and cloud patterns. Key features include:
• Aesthetic Appeal: Frog buttons are characterized by their elegant, flowing shapes, which serve as decorative highlights for garments and reflect traditional artistry.
• Functionality: They are used not only as closures but also as ornamental elements that secure and enhance the garment’s appearance.
• Variety: Frog buttons range from simple single-piece designs to elaborate multi-layered creations, catering to diverse styles and preferences.
Frog buttons are more than just functional accessories; they are a vital symbol of Chinese heritage, embodying the ingenuity and artistic sensibilities of ancient artisans. In modern fashion design, frog buttons have been widely adopted, serving as a bridge between tradition and contemporary aesthetics. Their continued use promotes the preservation and innovation of intangible cultural heritage.
